Here are some pictures and a description of a volume pedal I built several years ago, mostly out of scrap parts I had laying around.  Similar mechanics could be used for wah or other variable foot controls.

Simple is beautiful. Slider pots are not the most reliable components but who cares if it works long enough, and you can sometimes find those cheap so replacing scratchy one is ok

Maybe some kind of system that gives up before anything bad happens to the pot would be useful, if the mechanism stresses the slider knob

BTW you can buy such footpedals illuminated with built in blue leds (noticed them near fake diamond plate, Wunderbaums and fuzzy dice!

That's very nice.. and a plus is, that slider pots come in a lot of different styles, for high-end studio mixers etc.

I like it !! True Prototype Style ! If it's doing the trick, that's a good thing! Maybe put a plate or something over the potshaft so something doesn't catch on it...added feature !!!  Pretty cool how the pedal pivots right where you can use it.
I built a somewhat similar design, using a pot, string threaded through a flat sided knob on the pot, connected at one end to the pedal toe, other end sprung for takeup, and to turn the pot all the way heel down. Trick is getting the right knob, and angling the 'pulley'd, and sprung string just right so the string doesn't come off the side of the knob...angle plate used to hold the pot in position...a little play and the alignment can be fine tuned.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Y could easily add two, three or four pots and control them in sync...

Thanx

can't you a normal pot instead of a slider? just turn the cord around the shaft of the pot 1 time.

just an idea

That's an idea! I agree with the above post that you could maybe try a rotary pot...but I like it all the same.

Gj....btw, that footplate looks almost Identical to the snarling dogs one...I wonder if that's where they got their idea from...
