While shopping for components, I've seen that some 1uf film caps are HUGE. When ordering online how do you know if you're getting the smaller sized ones that actually fit in pedals or these huge ones? I need to order some but I'm not sure what I'd be getting because jdr.com doesn't have a picture or anything and smallbear is temporarily closed.

You just can't tell with them. They may have 3 styles in the bin with the same ratings but from different makers in slightly different styling. Jameco is the same way.

The only way you can even be sure is to order from a stocking distributor like http://www.mouser.com/ or http://www.digikey.com/

Both of those places have the datasheets for almost everything in the catalog. Save local copies of them for each part you're getting for future reference. :)

thanks a lot. Digikey looks like the way to go.

The Panasonic stacked metal film type are 1/4 the size of the regular ones. I use them all the time. I get them from Digikey also. Part number is P4675-ND.

Yeah, that's what I need. Thanks.

Don't forget that Mouser sells the small AVX box metal film capacitors for about $0.44 each (part number 581-BF074D0105J)...about 15 cents cheaper than the Panasonics from Digikey, which you have to order at least 10 of.  The AVX capacitors are the same high quality, but they're in a yellow box package...and about the same size, if not smaller.  There's also no minimum order...you can order one or one thousand ;)  The leads are pretty short though.

AVX...Finally a 'right' colored capacitor that I can Find after dropping it twice, actually they're easy to handle, they're well marked and I like that the flat sides facilitate easier use of needlenose for installing them into sockets the real estate grew up around.

I've got a bunch of Phillips 1uF 63volt box-style MKT that are nice and small for $.10 a piece with minimal shipping. I have .68uF 50volt Mallory caps that are very similar.

PM me.
