I have been wondering for years about the fuzz used in the studio for this 1966 Yardbirds classic. Many people have named fuzzes.  For me, no pedal has come close to emulating this eastern influenced lick. Anyone? pl

I'm gonna guess that it was Jeff's old Tele into a Sola Sound Tonebender MkII into an AC30.  He also had a Les Paul at that point so who knows.  They did tend to record very quickly which makes me think that they were pretty plug-in & go.  I think 'Roger the Engineer' was done in something like 6-7 days!  I've got a few books on them (they're one of my faves) and none of them really go into detail about the gear.   :(   I guess someone will just have to ask Jeff... :D

Maybe it was a Maestro Fuzz-Tone?  Mine kinda does that thick crappy thing pretty well...

RG knows!   And when I read the old post...found via search...I was at a loss for words.  He was THERE !  For the love of Stomp!

Thanks for the responses. Well I guess again its up to our resident electronics guru RG. Could ya please weigh in RG?:D

I'm going to side with a les paul for some reason. It just sounds that way. I think at that time Roger Mayer was doing stuff for them, but RG can verify this I'm sure

Well another thread about vintage boxes and another mention of Roger Mayer. I do tend to agree however with the Les Paul being Beck's guitar of choice. I know he started using them that year, but who knows...mebe
RG?

Thanks, that is the most complete testimonial I have ever seen on a famous pedal, but I guess every pedal is famous.

I am satisfied with this answer and thank everyone for their responses. pl

Um... wasn't he joking when he wrote that?

squidsquad

Possibly a joke...I'm gullable...sounded valid...didn't see a wink...maybe I was under the influence...ah well....try to help......easily excited....etc....

Johnny Guitar

Yeah, I got the impression that one or two people  were taking the piss. But I think if you follow Biran W's posts, he seems to have a good rationale regarding the Tonebenser MK I (no idea if it's true or not though).
