does anyone know what these transformers do in the circuit? Are they for stepping up voltage or something else?

ZVEX pedals are totally insane - how does Zac squeeze them into 1590B's?

I think that the transformers are used in a similar fashion as Tim Escobedo's "Jawari" to get the octave up sound. I would imagine that the signal goes thru one, and then you have an octave up. That would then go thru the other one, and then you would have two octaves up.

At least that is what I think is going on in there...  8)
