I have one of your schematics here that I don't quite have all the text on. It came out on Doug Hammonds thread that had the OUSB sample on it that he pulled. It was on one of those threads that were about 3 feet wide, and both ends of the text was cut off on the legal sized print out. Anyway, part of the text reads: "if you like twisted and sick sounding fuzz pedals with some octave action happening, feel free to build one I designed called.....makes for a very cool caustic sounding fuzz"...  I believe this one was the "Dirty Sanchez", but I'm not sure. Anyway, I'd say "caustic" is definitely the word for it! It's very nasty, and farts out after a pretty heavy smack of the pick. Not quite like a totally misbiased transistor, because it lasts longer than that, but "gatey" for sure. Basically, the 100K R2, and the 100K R6 have to be turned wide open to get anything, and so does your guitar volume. If the guitar volume is not set to at least 8 out of 10, it won't fire the circuit. It would be good for Punk or something like that, where you had to play fast chords, and you weren't worried about sustain. It has a higher pitched buzz box tone to it, and some weirdness in the back ground that's cool, like bees swarming in a hive. For me, I would like to have you expand on it a little bit, where you could have a switch that would allow you to sustain for leads, and then click it off for the real nasty, caustic, original tone, for rhythm. The tone is super buzzy to the point of being synthy, but you don't get to really enjoy it for long because it dies off.

I've been playing this circuit most of the morning, the more I play it the more I like it. I played it through a dirty amp, and it helps the sustain some as you would guess, but it sounds so thin and buzzy while it's clean, that I wish it could sustain then. It's still pretty awesome, as long as you play notes fast enough that the notes don't fart out too quick. It's pretty much as advertised though. It's nasty, caustic, vulgar and disgusting pile of sick! You have definitely out sicked the Sick Box with this one Dragonfly.

yep...that would be the Dirty Sanchez....and its definitely sick ! it kinda combines fuzz, ring mod, and octave sounds all into one disgustingly beautiful noise/fuzz box :)

i was just thinking about that one today....(i was offline for a couple days)...considering putting a trimmer on Q2's collector....but heres a suggestion that might work....use a DPDT footswitch to alternate Q2's collector between the 10k resistor (IIRC) and a 100k externally mounted pot. that way you could get that fierce crunch tone for rhythms, and dial in a more "biased" and sustainy sound for leads....

hmmm....

Thanks, that sounds like a plan. I REALLY like the overall tone of this thing. It's real thin and buzzy, but dark enough not to sound like an octave up circuit. I'm guessing this thing is a Bazz Fuzz or Buzz Box derivitive, and I believe it basically is an octave up circuit. it seems like somebody told me that one time, and by the overtones, I'd have to agree. I won't get a chance to work on it until next week, because I have three 12 hour night shifts to get in. I also want to do the newest Ugly Face mod with the harmonic effect. I think you have a winner with this one!
