With all the hype I wondered if there was any real difference in sound and circuit. From what I understand there isnt. So why no hype bout the ch-1? Are people just fooling themselves? Believing the hype?

Both use an MN3007/MN3101 pair for delay, and roughly the same clock circuit, but there are a few changes in the LFO circuit (beyond mere component values) that MAY impinge on the sweep.

HOWEVER....

a) CH-1 uses an entirely separate bias voltage for the BBD (4.5v Vref for everything else) while the CE-2 uses the same non-centred Vref for the entire audio path (separate Vref for the LFO).

b) CE-2 uses a bipolar transistor input buffer, and 4558 for output stage where the CH-1 uses an M5218L lownoise op-amp for input/output buffers.

c) CH-1 uses a pair of nose-to-nose 3V zener diodes in the feedback loop of the 2nd stage (that splits the dry/wet and conditions the signal for the BBD) to reduce clipping, where the CE-2 does not (although these *could* be added).

The CH-1 obviously has circuit changes to support the additional effect blend and EQ functions.  The EQ is essentially a RAT-style one-pole lowpass filter that simply adds to the existing 3 stages of post-BBD lowpass filtering.

The output stages are minimally different.  The CE-2 has a 470R resistor in series with the op-amp output, but BEFORE the output cap and resistor to ground.  The CH-1 output goes to the output cap and resistor to ground and THEN to a 1k resistor.  Whether that makes a tonal difference is another matter.

That's about all I can see.

The main difference is the pre and post delay filters.  The filter cut-off on the CH-1 is much higher.

As Mark mentioned the CH-1 has some extra controls.

According to the water analogy of electricity, transistor leakage is caused by holes.

Thanks. So it looks like you cant change a few things and make a ce-2 from a ch-1. Just wonered.
