I've looked at this one several times, and I'm not exactly sure what it is. The schematic is kind of fragmented. I took on some of Gusses schematics a few years ago to make into graphic schematics and Easy Builds over on GGG, since they were hand drawn and a little tough for the beginner. I'll probably go ahead and take this one on and see what it does. Gusses OUSB and SOU are real nice circuits, so I imagine there's something interesting lurking in this one too. I want to build it first so I can cast what's going on there in concrete, and no it's correct. I checked the forum, and there are no entries on this circuit, so I thought I would ask the group if anyone had tried building it. I like his Sick Box, but I LOVE his Simple Octave Up! It's a great sounding octave up fuzz. Build it and see. I dare you!

Finally figured out how to use the Octave Up Sick Box..... well, I mean dial in the more useful sounds with my guitar's knobs rolled back a bit. I really liked it alot once I figured out the trick.
I want to try the Simple Octave Up as well, but I'd like to know how it compares to the Bobtavia and Tychobrahe first so I don't make the mistake of just building the same effect over and over.   I should just go ahead and give it a whirl anyway since it's an easy low parts count build.  Keep us posted on Gus's Sick Fuzz..... looking forward to your results!!
Funny thing is I got into building these stomp boxes months ago to improve my sound, but it seems I'm more into the circuit's that destroy it, hahaha!!!

http://www.diystompboxes.com/sboxforum/viewtopic.php?t=28025  That'll get you to the review I did on it. If I had to compare it to the two, it would be a little closer to the Bobtavia, and nothing like the Tycho. It's really its own animal, and is not quite as high pitched as the Bobtavia. It's nothing like OUSB either. Of the ones I have built lately, I like the SOU better than the OUSB, and I like Tim Escobedo's Octup Blender, better than than the SOU. It can be clean, and allow you to add as much up octave as you want, or be totally octave fuzz without a hint of clean. That makes for an interesting sound, to not have any of the standard guitar signal mixed in there. Both the Octup Blender and the SOU have good tracking on the notes without tons of ring mod, unless you adjust the controls for more of it.
