Looking for a good Bass Fuzz

The bassist in my band asked me to build him a fuzz. He wants something really gritty, not as saturated sounding as a Muff, but close. Really glitchy and  @#$%ed up sounding is good too. He described wanting the tone from the newest Phantom Planet disc. Can anyone point me towards a good design?
