EA Trem rate mod?

I tried the search function and didn't see anything (did I miss it?)

I'd love to get the EA trem to go a bit faster. Is it at all possible? I've tried the obvious trick of changing the resistance in line with the Rate pot, but when I tried to go faster, it didn't trem at all.

Any thoughts?

I decreased that resistor (R11 in GGG schematic) to 820 ohms and it makes my tremolo a bit faster. I thinks you could make it even smaller, try 500 ohms or something like that. However, and maybe that's the problem you have, if you make this resistor too small or leave it out, your tremolo stops oscilating (at least that's what my tremolo did, the LFO behaved quite strange).

Oy.

You could also try changing the value of the "cap trio" (C5-6-7, looking at the schem from GGG). Lowering them all in--the same--value will raise the speed. The speed has to do with how fast those caps fill up and empty , if I remeber correctly.

Hope that helps, ciao.

I never got my hands on any to try, but it seemed like swapping out the trio of 1u caps for three 820n would work well.  470n shifts the rate range so much that slower speeds are lost.

Just built one of these this week. I socketed the aforementioned trio of  1uf caps. Used the AVX box caps. I like the .47uf ones for the more extreme choppy fast cutting sound they provide. .68uf seemed to give a good range of speeds - would have tried .82 if I had any.
-It would be nice to switch between 1uf/.47uf...
Nice circuit, good job on the mods-glad I built this (ROG) version!

...i like the .68uf's in 'em...they give a nice wide range of speeds...

I wasn't happy till I subbed the .68's also.  Gee...since this is asked a lot...maybe that info oughta be added to the schem.

I got lots and lots of Mallory .68uF 50v box style caps for $.10 USD apiece. PM me. I got thousands. Help.

Yes, this was spam.

Usually I'm more of a modest guy, but I have to say I think I've built the perfect EA Tremolo.
What I did was adding a 3PDT mini toggle switch, which I use to switch between two different trios of elec-caps, 1uF's and 0.47uF's, like mentioned before. This makes for a great variety of rate values, with the rate pot as a sort of a fine tuner. You can solder the caps directly to the switch in order to save space.

...double post, I'm sorry...

Thanks for the tip sovtek50, you've inspired me to try it. I guess I was being lazy (and only thinking of using DPDT switch) - it seemed too difficult to do, but now I see how it is possible. Yes I think this switch mod would make for a "perfect" EA Tremolo 8) Now to locate a 3PDT toggle switch... :(

What the Fulltone Supa-Trem has is a *half-speed* or *double-time* switch. It might be useful to calculate two sets of values that give you this ratio. That and a blinking *rate* LED are pretty useful things to have on a trem.

thats one of the many mods ive been doing to the EA tremolo circuit in the Trems ive been building....its an easy mod to do...easier than you may think...heres a diagram.
