Modding an MXR Microamp

My friend has a retail MXR Microamp, and has asked if there was a way to add more compression. With my extremely limited knowledge of electronics, i thought it might have something to do with either the diode or the chip.

Anyway, what can i replace that will add more compression? And with what should i replace it with?

It is funny that you should ask.  Check out Joe's discrete diode compression opamp.  If you need help building it, be sure to check out the build tutorial for complete step by step how to instructions.

You would actually replace the IC in the MXR with the circuit in the above post.  The LM741 is a single opamp, and Aron shows you how to build the "replacement" step by step.

So basically that Comp Amp or discrete OA goes in say a MA or even a BMP or DIST +, even a Reamer or Screamer ...
 I'ts those 2n5087's holding me back, I'll probably socket that splayed OA, and try some Ge's and 3906's in there for a time...
 Joe, you're making it hard to stop building again for me ... Cheears ... hapiness is a warm new circuit    I bet that things worth messing with building, I'll let you know! !
