-Why don´t we as a community, try to modify the hell out of an Boss DS-1.
-And live to tell about it..-That would be a great feat of learning.-Cause i know there is much to be gathered around the old DS-1 circuit.
Am i crazy for suggesting this.?-IMOO.The DS-1 is the perfect victim,Oh sure it´s cheap, but it sounds like crap.

well I for one don't mind the DS-1. First pedal I owned. I would have bought a DS-2 but didn't have the money at the time. The only complaint I had about it was in a SS amp it sounded a bit flat, so a treble booster worked well with it, but in a tube amp the tone was too trebley.
I suppose it really depends on what you want to get out of a pedal

play it hard, play it LOUD!

Really depends on WHich DS-1 too.
 I've had 3.
1rst one...I sold my good buddy, sounded PDGood I thought, must have been a good run. Nice Pedal
2nd DS-1...not much like the first, I didn't like having to use it much
3rd DS-1 about the same as the second, not that much fun to use...tone on the 2 and 3rd went from Mud to Hash...garbage tone. Well built.
4rth one is down in the lab, has a different OA, does whacky squeals I may want to record someday. I was planning to mod the craptone out of it, but last time I tried it the effect was so unique...what would normally be considered a problem is now a 'circuit bend'...lol.

DS-1 hehe 1 of the best distortion i ever use since 1989

i have my old one buy in 1989 made in japan , a friend have early version of DS-1 and have some diferent components inside and not same sound ...

1- no same opamp
2- tantalun caps  * the old version have metal film and ceramic

**not confirmed but in my old DS-1 the voltage of the Led is 4.3V , and in my friend version is 3.7V
