Anybody build either of the SD-9 clones here?:

Comments? Impressions? Couple of my fave guitar players seem to like the SD9 and I was thinking about buying the new Maxon version but then found this schematic. I think I could build it for cheaper than the Maxon.
Thanks for any comments.

I've built one.  It sounds pretty good, but I don't use it cos I got a great deal on an original Ibanez SD-9.  It's a slightly odd design, it uses a dual opamp where a single would do.  I suspect it's modelled after the Distortion+, with a tone control added.  Rather than make an active tone control or use a single opamp the original uses the second opamp stage to buffer the non-distorted signal.  :?:

So how does your clone compare to the real deal tonewise?

Really good.  Maybe a bit punchier because of fewer components (Switching FETs and output buffer) but it's a nice versatile distortion.  Much better than the DS-1 for me.

I built an SD9 from GGG. I thought the sound was a bit boring. I tried lots of combinations of diodes.... but still next to something like the Guv'nor or BSIAB or even a TS with a 1M drive pot - the SD9 just did not have enough dynamics and the distortion was too uniform - not enough sensitivity.....

It's not a bad pedal at all, it's just not a great one - IMHO...

i used SD-9 for about 3 months, then i sale to 1 of my guitar student , but it's little boring to play whit him, better is the BSIAB or BSIABII , but it's just taste :)
