Ummm.... is it this you're thinking of?

This is part of their guitar synthesizer collection from the early 80's (I have the GR-300, myself)

It requires a special pickup or guitar to be usable at all.  You can still find the pickups and guitars out there, but it's not worth the hassle.

This unit does hexaphonic distortion (which sounds kinda funky, as it distorts each string separately, so there is no intermodulation distortion. A very very clean distortion. The effect is similar to the distortion in a Roland Jazz Chorus amp.

Then there is an envelope follower and a chorus.

For cheap, it might be worth modding for a mono interface, but if you have to buy the guitar as well, might be a little too much work/money.
