Hi gang.  One of the first pedals I'm building is the BSIAB2.  Looking at the parts list I see the DC jack at Mouser, part #502-722A.  So i look up the part on Mouser and all is well.

But wait... I look at the picture of the installed DC jack:

And see a black plastic piece the jack goes in that I didn't see in the Mouser datasheet for Switchcraft.  Do I have to order this separately or does it come with the Mouser part or what?  Are there any additional washers that I need?

The jack in the GGG photo is molded plastic, the part # you are going to order is metal. The metal case jack will short out to a metal enclosure - rendering your pedal inoperable.
You can either put the metal jack inside a rubber grommet or use some other method to isolate/insulate the jack from the box.
or...get plastic jacks, I haven't bought these from Mouser, but it looks to me like part#163-4302 are the ones to get.
I get mine from //www.jameco.com part#151589CX $1.09 ea or 10/$0.93. They are a bit cheaper than @ Mouser.
Also, the Jameco ones have the nut on the outside of the box so it is easy to remove the entire circuit from the enclosure. It looks like the ones @ Mouser might need to have the wires desoldered to remove it.

Ahh, you're right, that matches the look of the part in the photo.  Thanks for looking it up.

That brings up another question.. What is the "NC switch" talked about in the catalog?

I would like to make the DC jacks of all my new pedal builds to be the same type/size as my Boss pedal so I can use a daisy chain power supply plug to power them all. So... Does anyone know for sure what the size of the new Boss jacks are, (the pin on my Boss DC jack appears to be between 1mm and 2mm) and can verify that a matching part # at Mouser would be 163-4117? The plug size that fits into my Boss DC jack is about 4.75 mm diameter, which matches the Mouser catalog column "Mating/plg O.D. (mm)". I'm assuming this refers to the diameter of the male mating jack.

Where can I find daisy chained power jacks? Question I checked on Mouser with no luck.

Much thanks!

Check out Smallbear for comparison. You're probably going to order from them eventually.

Check under page 2 of "Plugs, Jacks and Fittings." They have the metal and plastic ones too. Take a look. The plastic ones say "This is the 'BOSS-style.' Similar to Mouser #163-4302."

Hope that helps.

N.C. (normally closed) switch in these jacks means (basically) that you can wire your battery to the jack and as long as you don't insert the power plug, the connection of the battery to the rest of the circuit will remain intact. When you insert a plug into the power jack it pushes a tab out of the way - breaking the battery connection and making the connection only to the external jack, allowing you to keep a battery in the pedal without draining it.

Definitely check out Small Bear. Since almost everything he sells is for stompboxes it is easy to get the right parts.
