It has gain, but i think he wants more.  Although its not DIY you could try the boss metal zone. I use mine a TON, its a nice all around pedal and you can get tons of sounds out of it.

In the original post, he said that wasn't quite what he was looking for...

The 80's sound is brown sound (in a box 2).

Saludos, Marcelo.
Fuzz boxes don't need on/off switch!!!!!!!!

I still say that the BSIAB I gets you a nice EVH tone.

I am looking for the Ibanez LA Metal (LA7) schematic

It might help in these circumstances to clarify at what scale (ie. volume) you are looking to reproduce a given sound. With a 1X12 30 watt combo amp, you are only going to get a certain fraction of the sound of a 4X12 stack regardless of what pedal you use. At practice levels, or for recording, there are a slew of pedals ( or modeling FX)  that can get you in the ballpark. If you are talking about  stage volumes, it might be time to rethink the amplification if the 80's rock sound is really what you want.

That's a good point about rethinking the amplification. Whenever I think of the 80's metal sound, I think of a wall of Marshall amps and cabs. At least that's what you saw in those cheesy videos...

...not looking for stage volumes as I wouldn't attempt this on stage without a closed-back cab.  I just want something different to noodle around with when I'm bored with fuzz or my amp's medium gain.

I googled some BSIAB clips but all seemed to be with lower gain.  Anyone have links to clips of the BSIAB with distortion levels closer to EVH?

But none of those cabs actually had speakers in them.  Two to maybe four cabs (usually bottom row) were actually working cabinets.  The rest were empty and there for looks.

There were exceptions of course.  Judas Priest comes to mind, but that was late '70's very early '80's Priest.

I was actually thinking of Judas Priest and Yngwie Malmsteen when I wrote that.  8)

When I think of 80's sounds, I think of the compressed, saturated tone of bands like Whitesnake (that '86 or '87 album), Queensryche, Paul Gilbert, etc...the modified Marshall/Metaltronix super high gain amp tone.

Oh yeah, Yngwie likes lots of cabs working, scattered all over the stage so there are no dead spots.  I never really liked him even though he is a good player, he came across as a primadona to me.  Big ego, bad attitude, and it showed.

There is nothing like playing through a wall of Marshalls though. I once played through two plexi stacks in stereo by way of a stereo chorus.  Wow, was that sweet.  Makes your arm hairs stand up.

I watched a video of one of his concerts once, that was pretty evident!

Sounds like a memorable experience.  8)
