Hey there,

I have built a few of the lower gain circuits from over at runoffgroove with some success. They sound pretty good. I applied the same logic to the circuit for a soldano SLO100, which sounds pretty good for lead, not so good for heavy rhythm playing, there is not enough clarity in the bass for chords (not enough bass full stop) and there isn't enough treble. It sounds muted in a modern santana type of way, heavy on the mids, no bite. If I reduce the bass to counter the flab, it ends up sounding thin. If I try and increase the treble it is difficult to balance the fuzz.

I have had this trouble with all the high gain pedals I have tried, way too much mids, not enough clear kick and bite. I added a notch filter to lose some mids and hopefully balance out the frequency response, but it sounded pretty weak.

Does anyone have any suggestions on typical fixes for this problem? Or alternatively, are there any good high gain pedals out there suited for heavy riffing (ie Metallica, new Slayer, Dream Theatre etc) without the bumblebee fuzz?

thanks,

Craig
