Diode Compression Op Amp.

 In a DS-1. I..don't think that'll fit in a factory box though !
This size board shows my early spacious real estate build style.
I can shorten the wires to the DCOA, insert them into an 8P IC socket, solder four corners...stick the DCOA's socket in the OA socket in the board..then strap the two sockets together
I can report that this board sounds more interesting to my ears with the DCOAmp doing the amping.
the board is sitting on top of my ancient prototype 2$ testjig...those testclip wires are ground, input, output, they go to jacks in the bottom RACO [under the cardboard tray...that part is shrouded in the pic].

...I shortened the wires and screwed the DCOA's board to the DS-1's, also the Millenium Bypass is in this box.
Everything works Great !!! Diode Compression Opamp worked out so well it is something I'll probably try another DCOA !!
Here's a Pic of the DS-1 with DPDT Bypass and LED.

What you no likey Ganly messes ? ...
I suppose I could have gotten a better angled shot of it, but the Discrete Opaamp board can be seen screwed into the big board, and the connections will stay in place the way they are.
The Compression Amp is a great mod, I noticed my pedals noise floor dropped and I'm sure the sound IMO improved, certainly it changed, and does indeed sound more compressed.
What I'm waiting for is a pic of one that is so small as to fit into a Boss Pedal, alot more trouble than dropping in an 8 pin IC, in my case deemed as worth it, the pedal is now in high rotation and is very good sounding.
ANy comments welcome !! I know the box ain't purty, I go for the wolf in sheeps clothing effects.
I can report the Mil Bypass works wonderfully, fired right up as soon as I figured it out on the board.
This whole thing could be built and put in a smaller box, I like bigger/heavier boxes when I'm using toggles for bypass.
Oh yeah I'll put some knobs on it at least..lol...I just wanted to show the DCOA layout, see if someone can figure out a more compact, IC socket friendly layout for that circuit.

The transistors are pretty low noise, although I think it probably has less input resistance than a real opamp. Doesn't have to be pretty to work! From the looks of it, you might as well get a holster for your soldering gun. :)

Yupp I go for function beofore form I'm told.
I go after stuff like noise rejection and such's thats'...
As far as the insides go, I put a lid on those, as long as it's truly reliable, low noise/good performer, that's all I care about ... this approach is also evidenced by the appearance of the outsides of my boxes.
I chose the 'whip' 'em up and test 'em for cheepo approach initially, I found out alot trying all different kinds of circuits, not spending too much time on some of them other than to find out what they do, and if I like working with them. I think spending more time testing/trying the circuits, less time preparing boxes was a good way to start off...after all, the box, as far as the circuit is concerned is either big enough and shielded or not.
That's all good, but I found out a bit more recently that taking a given circuit, and trying...everything...[I or we can think of mod wise] on it get's mileage...I think "mod 'till you like it / or are sick of it" seems to be a common approach.
I do have some decent looking boxes that I use, certain circuits traded places in them from time to time, as part of their in the field testsorting...the ones that are in the nice boxes now are the ones that didn't get 'knocked out of the race'.
Maybe I should put a Pic up of a cool looking box ~~~ ... how hard is that ?
The money I saved, spending on RACO's and A/B monitor boxes, Computer PS boxes [or any kind of box cheep/free] allowed more buying of components, boards etc.
