I just finished my first working project (a basic original Silicon Fuzz Face with vintage 2N4250 transistor - hfe=325).  I point to point wired it on perfboard and it turned out pretty good.  First of all - I couldn't have done it without this forum.  NOW, I want to make ite better so here are my problems.  1- It's quiet except for picking up a local talk radio station.  I've heard about using capacitors or shielded cable.  How do I do this? and what else could I do.  2- It's pretty bassy which I like but it's lacking some definition.  What can I do to correct that?  3- The bypassed sound is much quieter than with the effect on.  Is there something I can do to equalize the volume.  Thanks.

If you want unity gain, you can put a "volume control" (look on any common pedal for his) with a 100K Audio pot (as a trimpot) right after the effect. This allows you to adjust level of the effect (if there's a volume control, put it before this. Shielded cable is special cable that has a core (wire) a lot of insulation (non conductive), then a metal braid, called a shield that grounds any noise trying to come into the wire.

(that's just my 2 cents worth)
Cheers,
