Fair do's, Michaelangelo couldn't have made much of a David out of egg cartons & sticky tape...
Seriously, it's limited by the technology, the buried charge storage (if that is what it is) corresponds to 7 or 8 bits.
You could try a compression/expansion approach, but you are really makign bricks without straw.

Well,the fix already exists...it is building the pt80 instead of rebote 2...the pt80 has companding and pre-de-emphasis,for reducing noise,and really extracts the juice of the pt2399 to the maximum...is one of my favourites delays
