DIY MXR Phase 100 vs. buying a Boss PH-1r

I'll admit, the PH-1r is my favorite phaser of all time, but they're getting hard to find, even on EvilBay.
I printed out (but haven't etched) the MXR Phase 100 from GGG's site, but I'd like some input as far as quality goes.

The main things I like about the PH-1r is the width and resonance controls, but I found out that there are some Mark Hammer mods for the Phase 100 that give it similar controls.
Has anyone built the Phase 100 and LOVE it?
Or....has anyone tried the DIY Phase 100 and the PH-1r and can give a comparison?

Thanks guys,
- Buck
p.s. I have a PCB layout for the Umble (Dumble) almost ready for the public (as soon as I sort out some problems with my website), but I can e-mail it if you're interested. Same quality as my other PCBs.

The Phase 100 has 10 stages of phase shift, 4 fixed, and 6 swept.  I can't verify at the moment, but my sense is that this is more than the PH-1 has.

Whether this sounds better or worse to your ears is a matter of taste.  One thing that IS for certain, though, is that if you like the way fewer stages sound, you always have the choice of tapping the phase shift signal earlier on in a phaser with more stages, whereas you do not have the choice of 6, 8 or 10 stages in a traditional 4-stager.  In that sense, a Phase 100 project offers more latitude for mods and especially taps.

The other thing to consider is that if you want to go mod-crazy, better to do it with a DIY project than with a vintage pedal whose resale value might be compromised.

P.S.:  It is personally gratifying to have my name be associated with mods perceived to be worth recommending, and I may be first out of the gate mentioning them because I had too much time on my hands at work, but these are not "my" mods by any stretch of the imagination.  That's not false modesty either.  It was typical for pedals produced before 1980 or so to ignore what everyone knew was technically possible and make the production items as cheap to produce, and as simple and error free to use as possible.  While the Phase 100 has two "controls", only one of them is variable and the other is essentially 4 presets of parameters that would later come to be standard items on even the cheapest phasers (e.g., Rocktek).  If using my name as an archive search term helps to locate them, great, but I get a little squeamish when I get creditted with what I consider to be the obvious.

I've got both a Phase 100, impeccably built by Bill Bergman (without the Hammer mods) and an original PH-1r.  As far as my tastes in Phasers go, the PH-1r is more of a noisemaker kind of phaser, it does a nice sci-fi kind of thing well.  The Phase 100 is much more univibe-like, if you will.  It has a better feel and is a lot more useful in more situations.

Your mileage may vary, of course.

I have a PH-1r and a script phase 90.
The phase 90 is a wonderful "musical" phaser.
The PH-1r is "almost" as good and has the benefits mentioned !
If you can find one I would recommend the PH-1r very much.
I would never sell either of them, they both do great jobs  :D
I've never used a phase 100 though.......
