DC-DC converter for 9V battery (rail doubler)

I found this when I was looking for a means to step up a small solar cell from 1V to a usable voltage. It uses very minimal parts and will convert 9V to a + and - rail. Turns out that in Australia you cant get an audio transformer with a tapped secondary, so I could only step down (which is a great lot of use ). Output voltage will probably depend on what transformer you use. Just an alternative idea to the MAX1044, if you cant get it easily.
Of course, I wouldn't recommend voltage step-up in an audio circuit, but thats at your discretion.
