ps:dont forget to push the chip all the way down

I have been experimenting with R.G. spdt bypass design using an cd4053. I was just about to beat this breadboard against a tree. When an a light bulb turned on, I thought to myself hey what if I dont have the chip all the way down. I was afraid to put to much pressure on it[ afraid of breaking something] but the thing just wont work unless it is making contact with the metal contacts underneath. Now I have a working spdt from a cd4053 and can continue with my project. The simplest things have been stumping me lately. I am thinking now that I should install sockets on my breadboard to prevent this from happening again.

About the CD4053 Switching, it worked well? Opinions that I found here in forum wasn't very good

Yeah, and after you push it all the way down.. check that all the pins are INSIDE the sockets :wink:

Yep, pins have a nasty way of bending underneath the chip, between the chip and socket, without making contact with anything.

Don't ask ME how I know this.  Ask Paul.   :lol:

Let's not forget the whole idea of making sure there is a chip even installed in your socket.

On the cd4053,trust me if I can get this thing to work it works. I have it wired just with few extenal components and it switches. My first design goal was to get one spdt to switch. I have all unused inputs grounded with no noise issues. I have yet to hear the popping noises yet but there is a faint signal bleed between X0 and X1 but I dont have cap. on the output yet that may help with that problem. The more I play with these cd4xxx chips the more I understand that while they are designed to work with few external components, if you add the right components with the right values it just supports that particular function of that cmos. My ultimate goal for this project is to utilize two cd4066 chips and one cd4053. Each 4066 will act as an dpdt,one effects in and out with bypass per chip; > signal to cd4053 using two of the spdts in an parallel effects chain configuration; finally all the outputs ending in an 4 input mixer with one output to amp.
