OT: USB vs PCMCIA recording hardware

For those of you big deal musicians out there - have you ever worked with USB based recording hardware? Im considering buying the Lexicon Omega to record demos but am I bit tentative about the USB connection to my laptop.  I can spend the extra $$ (lots) to get a PCMCIA based system but then I also have to buy mic preamps and such.

Any thoughts?

It seems everything is going to USB so it might be an idea to egt in there now as even midi is being converted to USB but it is really still all about low noise floors on the AD side and high bit rates and sampling frequency on the DA side no matter how it gets to the front side bus.
