Renamed title
AMp don't work right, Heathkit/Daestrom tube job has 'gakky' distortion when source is inputted.
I tried all tapping on stuff looking for cold solders, did the 'musical chairs' thing replaceing the 12ax7's with two 'extras' introduced into the mix [there are four 12ax7s' in it, I think they're all good, 6 tubes tried in four sockets/swapped around].
I had it all typed out, I'll enter this for now to see if it posts and add to it some later.
I suppose it's a job for a professional, but that was tried also...he replaced the output tubes [with too large units of same type, I had to 'stretch' the top out for it to fit over the tubes]...
Must be something wrong with it cause it dont' work right.
IS there someway to debug this thing?

RG has some stuff in his "-Tube Amp FAQ-". Look in the top left of his page:
http://www.geofex.com/

Have you replaced the old filter caps? Bad ones can really make an amp sound bad. They are in the power supply and little ones are biasing the tubes.

Your subject title here is just a dot. You might get better response if forumites knew what your thread was about.

Good luck!

Check out the forum at Hoffman amps.com.  Very knowledgable folks, and extremely helpful!

Are any of your sockets loose? I just went through a head-scratcher with my octal fatness where the bass response dropped out. Turned out the power tube socket was loose. I re-tensioned all the terminals and it works great now.

(I gotta tell ya, Pete. That dang "." is pretty hard to click on if you want anyone to read this thread.  :D   )

It sure is, I just missed it a couple times...sorry...I have the quote and post response options...I was gonna change that...I guess I hit post before remembering to include a title, which also is less than admirable...makes it hard to see what the post is about without opening the page...
I'm going to try my hand at this, I looked at the GEO tube amp debug page, and so I have some things to try on it !
Here I go to lookup 12ax7 pinouts again !!!
