I've already had an electric shock off this one, but i guess i just can't stand to see broken electronics.

And here it is.

The speaker it's attached to is rated 5w so i'm guessing its not any higher than that.

it's got an audio amplifier (TBA810S) and something else which has 4 connections and i'm not sure about (W005 7933) the white capacitor (C6) has a bit of flux on it, but i'm not sure it's that. much more likely the amp methinks.

does anyone know

a) where to get a replacement for the TBA810S
b) how to use a multimeter on it while it's connected to the mains without getting killed?

ps.. really few components, if someone wants me to draw up a schem let me know. it's a long time since it was working but i remember it being quite nice.

for some reason i post then check the link ;) - it's working now

First thing to check on a circuit like that is that the active components are getting power.

In order to do this without shocking yourself, clip the - lead of the multimeter to circuit ground, then put one hand in your back pocket and touch the + lead to the point in the circuit you want to test.

Keep a policy of never touching the amp with both hands while it's powered up.

The Ampage forum is good for fixing amps.

That 4-legged thingy is a full wave bridge rectifier that turns your AC into DC. :)

Entering the search term TBA810 nto Google willlead you to datasheets.  It is a power amp chip rated at a max of 7W power dissipation. with a max 20v supply voltage.  From the looks of it, the circuit in what you have probably isn't too different from the application circuit shown in the datasheet.

thats all my questions answered then!

i'll let you know how i get on...

EDIT: incidentally that ic looks perfect for a really simple clean booster...
