Ordered the wrong diodes.. repalcement for 1N4001?

GRR.. now I have to put in another order to Mouser.. or do I?  I have several extra other diodes.. which ones will replace the 1N4001 for the purpose of DC input?  Look at the 1N4001 on the Chaos schematic.. does this just make sure the current doesn't go the other way when I reverse the battery, so would any diode work?

which diodes do U have?
almost any power diode will work.
a signal diode is not recommended.
signal diodes are 1N4148 or 1N914.
is there a RatShack near U??
they should have 40xx series diodes.
save U the $6 shipping charge.

Use:
1N4002/4004/4006 they will all work as protection diodes or as "overdrive" diodes too and are very common.
1N914/1N4148 wont do

THese are good scavenger items, because they can be tested easily with the DMM. I think just about every scav-board I have [monitor, vcr etc.] has diodes that are good for use as Reverse polarity protection diodes.

Any 1N400x, only difference between them is, i think, current handling capabilities, with higher meaning more amperage.  I think 1N4001 is already an amp anyways, so meh.  ratshack sells an assortment of 1N400x series diodes and i haven't run out yet.  plenty of 1's

all 4xxx handle bout the same amps.
fine for stompboxes, & OA circuits.
google for a datasheet, or just look at a Mouser catalog.
