Bradshaw-style Pedalboard....

Ever since I saw J. Mascis using his Custom Audio Electronics pedalboard, I had the bug to try to build something similar for my rig.

I currently have a BC Rich FX loop selector board that rarely gets used, but it's giving me ideas nonetheless. (I can't find much info on the web about this box, but it is essentially a programmable FX loop controller, with four FX sends and returns, and five programmable presets where you can have any combination of the fx in each program.)

Anyway, this is similar to the concept that I'm wishing to replicate, though, like the Bradshaw system, I would love to have a  "queue" where while I'm using one preset, I can line up what I want the next preset to be on the fly.

So picture this:

You've got two (or however many you want, I guess) "programs" which have access to say, four or five FX loops, and each one is selectable as to which program (any, or even all or none of them) has that loop in the path.

So let's say, preset 1, I've got a booster and a tremolo on. Well, while I'm playing that, I can set up in the queue of the next preset that I want the booster still on, but the tremolo off, and a phasor on. So here comes the chorus, and BAM! I hit "next preset" and I've got booster and phasor. While I'm playing that, I can either go back to my previous "program" of booster and tremolo for the second verse, or else I can "update" it and take out the booster and add a Big Muff instead while it's in "queue" mode, and here comes the verse, and BAM! I've got Big Muff and tremolo.

Am I making any sense?

In a way, think of it like a digital effect unit which lets you select the next patch you want, but it waits until you hit "ENTER" to go to that patch.

I know it would have to involve either some digital circuitry or lots of relays or 4066/4016-type cmos switches, but has anyone done something like this on this forum?

http://www.geofex.com/Article_Folders/fxswitchr/fxswitchr.htm You may or may not have seen this but it seems to be what you want. It seems like you can make it as complicated or simplistic as you desire. I am currently working on a project utilizing two 4066 and an cd 4053. I am going to have two effects loops and a parralell out using the 4053 to accomplish this task. Keep us posted when you decide what you are going to do.

BC Rich JMP-45. You can select any combination of the four fx, but not the order of the effects. If you had a phaser and a distortion, you could have presets for no fx, phaser, distortion, and phaser/distortion, but not where the distortion is before the phaser on one preset, and after the distortion on another preset.

They are pretty cool considering their low price. Anolog Mike used to sell them. I use mine for a/b pedal mod tests.

Thank you so much!

I should have thought to check with Geofex.

Yeah, that's the BC Rich box. I got it for a very good price some years ago and I basically use it for blind pedal tests too! I put up an original 808, a TS-9, a TS-9 RI and a TS5 to hear the difference....
