regarding E.H. muff fuzz

i just built the electro harmoniz muff fuzz using andrew carrell vero board layout and it doesn't work properly if i hit the strings hard it gets this loud fuzz that sounds like it's not biased properly or possibly a poor solder joint or poor ground i rechecked all my connections and reflowed all the components
it is the circuit with the omp amp
has anyone built this :?  :?

i breadboarded it a couple weeks ago and it worked fine.  this is the one knob opamp version right?  sounded pretty good to me
