CV7003 for use in the '69 and Soul Bender?

Since the gains on the CV7003 are about the same as the gains on the NKT275, will this tranny work in the '69 and Soul Bender? Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks!

phillip

Most of the Germanium transistors that we use in effects are more or less the same in terms of gain and other values, so the OC44/CV7003 would work fine in just about any Germanium transistor effect circuit, including the ToneBenders, Fuzz Face, and RangeMaster.

Just make sure to check the gains and leakages carefully so that you'll get good results with them.  Germanium transistors vary quite a bit from piece to piece so sometimes you'll have to check a few before you get one that has the gain and leakage you're looking for.

Analog Mike says on his Sunface page that he once bought a lot of real NKT275 transistors (no doubt extremely expensive) and 25% of them were dead.

Thanks Philip. :) BTW your site ROCKS!!

Since I have a good supplier of TI CV7003's I think I'll use this trannie in several of my builds as I've heard good things about the TI series of trannies.

Thanks again for your kind reply. This forum is a huge blessing. :)

Cool! I have a bunch of those that I tested, recorded the results on each little bag and then stored them away. I just had them in the "range master" only part of my brain. Time to start experimenting with them in the fuzz domain.
