Well, here's my take on reverb circuits:

The best sounding "traditional" reverb circuit I've heard is the tried-and-true standalone reverb with the 6K6 power tube. That doesn't mean there isn't better, just the best I've heard.

If you want a real reverb sound without the spring attack, Craig Anderton's old circuit with the dual springs out-of-phase worked extremely well. It was almost like a studio reverb. Very nice.

Tubes are cool, work great, have long track record of 'industry standard' type results, often, reverbs are compared to tube/spring reverbs.
Mosfets or BJT's are too, there will be plenty of non-linear-ness introduced by the reverb springs...what's driving the springs is subjective, transistors can do the job, and require less ___ [cost/weight/peripheral electronics] to startup, and excellent function consistancy / longevity.
One place I'd concentrate on is a more flexible reverb, to accomodate various preferences...such as pre-post voicings.

Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Are you talking about building a pedal? i.e. solid state, non-mechanical. Scan the DSP board. I think there has been some discussion there about builds using a certain chip that is currently available. Sorry to be so vague. It's been a couple of months since I was reading it. I'll look for it myself when I get a chance.

I wanted to build one myself but I deemed it to time consuming for now (IIRC how to switch the presets and stuff like that would need to be worked out) so I just ordered a Boss. I still would like to make one someday. If you come up with a functioning layout, let me know ;)

DSP is good but difficult and expensive to get the chips. Any place can buy online ? i dun think my local stores sell them.
