I built Jack's "overdrive pro" some while ago and really loved it !
I ended up giving it to the Band I was recording with a few months ago
as the guitarist loved it too ( and they may get famous, so I was "keeping
in with them too ! )
I remember that with my rig, I had the eq pretty much "flat" and liked
the saturation control at "half way" too .......
so here's a version with the "sat" control at mid way point and without the
three band eq section .
Thanks to Jack and AMZ's efforts, its a fantastic little circuit,
it sounds wonderful and rolling back your gtr volume "cleans" up the
sound nicely, lots of gain available from "mild OD" to "shred" !!!

Jack :
If you have a problem with this edited version or see any mistakes/
improvements, then please let me know and I'll correct/take it
off the Gallery right away.

Built and working from that schematic BTW

Enjoy,
Marty.

Anyone have a vero layout of the AMZ Overdrive Pro that they could pass along or post? This lite version sounds like an interesting build to add to my project list. Thanks

MartyMart,

looks cool, I have the full version, but I usually leave the eq and saturation knobs set.  Possibly all this can now fit in a 1590B box.

thanks for the input.

Thanks , you're welcome :D
It's quite small and will fit easily into a 1590B.
Adjust the "saturation" pair of resistors to taste, 20k top and 82k to ground was a little less "full on" sounding, perhaps there's room for that
pot on a 1590B ..... Just !!  (16mm)

Yeah!

I was thinking of skipping the saturation and the tone stack and going with just the distortion & Volume controls.  Some pedals are nice to have all these tweakable knobs/switches, but most of the time I try to keep it simple.

The original I built I had to put leds for clipping diodes to boost the output, I had originally thought about placing a small booster on the output.  I kept the clipping symmetrical.

So did you achieve unity plus gains without the tonestack?  And did you keep the diodes as 1n914s in the lite without volume concerns?

There is "well enough" gain/vol from this, with a 50k output pot !
I guess with the Eq, the original last 2N5088 stage was for volume recovery.
You could keep that final stage, or tap in 4.5v just before that 0.1 output
cap ?
I used 1N4148's for diodes as I dont have any 914's, seem to work well
and are perhaps not as "compressed" sounding, they have a forward
current of 0.7v and I think 914's are 0.4 - 0.5 volts ..?

I'll post a few sound clips tomorrow, so you can check it out OK ?

We seem to be on the same Wave Length.  I drew a similar version, but replaced the first stage with a second op amp stage, since the wiring up of the op amp was already done.  Saves a few parts.
