I've seen some photos of finished boards and I noticed that a number of them are using SIL sockets to mount components.

Which size should I use for  2n4401 trannies and general JFETS?

Chris,
here's what I use, a "6 pin" DIL socket, which are quite easy to get hold
of from ESR/Rapid?RS components.
Its just a 6 pin version of the "8 pin dil" used for op-amps etc ..

Just cut it in half and trim the plastic .... dadah ! two transistor sockets :D
They cost about 8p each for a tube of 50, so that's 100 sockets for 4p
each .... not bad !

lol - i'd have to become a business and I don't fancy having to comply with all those regulations.

btw - how the heck do you get the CE certification?

Chris - join "RS"  - here's how :
Go get some "buisness cards" made up - £20 ( you could use some anyway right? ) - or just print off 6 of your own at home ...
Make a "Headed note paper" for "Hopkins Studio"   etc ...
Go down and join, took me a phone call, then an on-line ref comfirmation
i was buying parts the next day !!
PS: carefull, RS is NOT cheap, you have to dig around the catalogue and
find the "special" things that you need .... 8/6 pin dils are one of them,
some transistors are fine, Jack sockets/caps etc ... NO NO NO !!

Regards,
Marty.

Khas Evets

I use the long strip of 64 sockets (Mouser 575-193164) with dentents, making it easy to cut. The come in smaller sizes.

Steve Daniels @ SmallBear has them also. :)
