On a vintage RAT, do I use a size 'm' DC jack for a mod? Does it matter if i use the metal barrell type that you can buy at radio shack? or is there a specific size and type to use?

Also what is the hype behind the LM308?

Cool, any help would be awesome.
hold on folks

The metal jack will  unfortunately short your power supply because the boss type 2.1mm barrel power connectors have a positive ring and negative tip, and the ring would connect directly to the metal chassis (ground) via the threaded part of the jack.  Using the plastic jack is easiest and trouble free, even though they are big and ugly.  I get mine at small bear.  Radio shack has some plastic 2.1mm jacks that are harder to mount, they have a U shape, you can use those if you don't mind filing a special shaped hole.

I use the 13mm "barrel" type that have the plastic thread/screw on the
"inside" .... not very forgiving if you make a mistake, but they look very
"neat" as they only protrude about 2mm on the outside of the pedal.
They are standard "Boss" 2.1mm type, much better than the old RAT 1/8th mini-jack socket.

The Rat I built sounded better using a TL070 chip and my "re-issue" also
came with one fitted ... !
The LM308 does have "that sound" though .... most single op-amps
would work in there ....

On guitargeek was a discussion a while ago about the LM308 chip, it tends to be the best sounding rats available as chosen by various artists...

I own one.
