Mosfet Polarity Protection Question

Is there any advantage to using a P channel mosfet on the high side (V+ line) vs an N channel mosfet on the low side (ground line)?

Maybe the P eliminates the need for a gate protection resistor over the N? But then if you use a small value R for your V+ input filter and place the gate connection downstream of the R, I would think that negates the P advantage for gate protection.
