Booster/headphone amp?

I once had an old headphone amp that used an LM386.  It wasn't perfect, the LM386 is a terrible audio amp and I could easily get unwanted distortion out of it.  But it made a great booster after my TS.

Can anyone reccomend me a good booster circuit that I can wire to stereo output for headphones as well?

NE5532 op-amp.  Just like a normal op-amp but powerful enough to drive headphones.  It's dual too, ideal for this application.

i've been trying to build one with the pile of OPA134s i have, with absolutely no success beyond loud clipping.

Just set up the amp I mentioned with variable gain of about 2-3 and it should be enough to drive cans.  If you want more gain to drive an amp too, you could use one half for the cans (though it would be mono) and the other half to drive your amp.

Ok I got it to work with the OPA134s, but its a little quiet for my tastes at gain 11.  I've got an old PCB for a dual opamp that I never built, so I'll try that with the 5532 once i get one.

What I'm trying to build is a little headphone amp (1/4" in, 1/8" out) that I can put an adapter in the 1/8" for my amp.  The old one gave my stomp boxes an extra punch when they needed it.
