Man, am I ate up with it! (surprized right?) I was trying to finish up the  Three Legged Dog circuit today before I left for work. I got all my off board stuff wired up, got out the transistor and chip. Plugged the transistor in, and then went to plug the the 4049 chip into the socket and....wait a minute....this socket has 14 pins, but somehow or another, my chip has 16 legs. Ahhhhhhh!! It never even occured to me to look at the chip, because the schematic had never mentioned pins 15 and 16, so I KNEW it was a 14 pin chip.  :x  Well, it looks like this one will be a scab job, because it's on perf, and I'm not pulling the socket off. All of the important stuff is correct down to pin 7, so I guess I'll stick in a couple individual pin sockets, and pull all the grounds off of it. I've done several miswires, but this is my first time for this one.    I guess it's worth mentioning, so someone else who is working on perf, and is using a particular style of chip for the first time might look a little closer. What set me up for this even worse, was that I had been given these chips, and didn't have to order them and know their pin outs.

Just bend those extra pins out sideways (careful dont snap them off) and solder wires to them & run them off to where they need to go. Ugly but it works... yeah, been there..
