hello,

i've taken an old record player apart today, and got what apears to be some old germanium transistors,,
the code on them sayes-
sanyo 2sd30
        2sb22
also got two 1m pots and some more old transistors..
can you tell if they can be used in pedal project? maybe a tonebender??

Not as easy as you can.
For a definitive answer Check out GEO Technology of the FF and Dallas Treble Booster articles, in there also is a Ge' transistor checker, tests for gain/leakage.
...use a FF with sockets, a DMM, your ears, and a [or two] trimpot at least as Q2's Collector Resisto [my FF testbaord is full of sockets and trimpots].

2SB22 is a pnp Ge, but the 2SD30 is Si npn. According to a book here.

thanks guy's!

i have a tonebender clone with NOS Mullard OC76 ,i've switched them around with the sanyos, and it worked with the 2sd30 just as good!

Bernt

My book says that 2SD30 is a Ge NPN.

Bernt.

You can check the polarity of the B/E Diode and see whether it's an NPN or a PNP./

Sorry.
What I wanted to stress  was that the 2SD30 is a GERMANIUM not silicon transistor.

It wouldn't suprise me if the 2SD30 was Ge.
It's Si in my 1977 Semicon transistor index, but that could be wrong, for sure. They have the manufacturer as "Tokyo Sanyo" FWIW.
