I cant find mpsa18 for buying, ...
and I want to build the sparkle drive ...

MPSA18        SI-N 45V 0.2A 625mW 100MHz

Could a substitute the MPSA18 for any other transistor ? any bc ? BC550B ??
thanks

You can use a 2n5089, a high gain low noise transistor like the MPSA18.
I think that's an emitter buffer stage, so  an NPN Si transistor should 'work'.... I'm not sure what using a lower gainer would do in that position.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

?? 30 cents at SmallBear!!

MPSA is from motorolla, you could find another brand at different naming. I have once could not find it when my ADA-MP1 broke, then i try another brand (i forgot the type) and it works fine.

I know that you guys can find a lot of stuff at smallbear, but it's kind of expensive to import it to Brazil, not only the shipping but the taxes , the price gets doubled ...

It's actualy hard to find 2n5089 here, but in this case I think I can use a BC549B without problems, right ?

I'm doing a list of substitutes, transistors always give me headaches ... I will have to ask you about somemore this days, thanks for your help!

BC549C would be better than the B. Basically the highest hfe NPN low noise transistor you can find (not darlington).
Shoot straight you bastards. Don't make a mess of it. -Last words of Breaker Morant

I was looking at these (MPSA18) earlier today in the Jameco catalog - they cost U.S.$6.30 for 100 pieces and the catalog states that they only charge you for their actual shipping costs on international orders.

My sympathies are with the Brazilian builders, it isn't just the cost of postage, it is the incredible hassles regarding customs and currency regulations (at least that is what I think, a number of people from Brazil hae actually come to my door here in Australia to take back stompboxes in their luggage for friends!).

I have usually succeeded in getting small packages past Brazilian Customs without duty by not using my company name in the return address and checking "Gift" on the green sticker. They may get wise to this, but for the moment it has been working.

As I said before, the sum of price, shipping and taxes makes the final price gets twice the original plus shipping ...
Yeah ... believe it: total = (price + shipping) * 2

And with one or other change we are starting to find almost everything we need here ... but prices are starting to grow as everyday a lot of people start diy effects here

That transistor is non-critical - it's just an emitter follower, AKA a buffer.  It's not like a fuzz face where transistor type is everything.  Stick any high gain NPN in there and it'll work just fine.
