i want to build a little box with only one knob i can place in front of any of my amps and that works like the tone know on olde tube radios.

from very trebly (bass and even some mid cut) to normal to very bassy (treble cut) and i want to put a mid booster after that.

i guess this wouldn't be very hard to do but i don't know where to start

I would put a booster->tone control->midrange boost:

try this control and use a trimmer for the "body" control:

that looks quite good. but i think i would make the extra control a trimpot or a switch with fixed settings because i would like to eventually build it in a wah housing.

That's cool. Use the Duncan Tonestack simulator to refine your filter.

if you want SIMPLE and passive, what you do is that a dual gang pot, with one set up as a high pass and one as a low pass....works well.

I think fender took this idea in the "TBX" tone control.

edit: wow, my grammar is terrible.
