Obviously I'm a newbie so forgive me for this question. I am doing some basic mod's on my Fender Hot Rod Deville amp, they call for swapping out a couple of cap's and one resistor with different values.

I know the cap's are high voltage cap's and have them picked out, but what about the resistor? Over at small bear, they only list 1/4W resistors, my mod requires a 56K resistor, but doesn't specify anything else, is there anything else I should be worried about picking out a resistor for an amplifier mod? Please help ...

Thanks,
Rony.

you need a certain type resistor,

click on the little arrow down where it says vaule and they have them.

as far as the other stuff , 1/4 watt 5% i think that is standard .

Jra, yes I knew that they had the value that I needed, I just didn't know if there are different resistors to use on higher voltage amps than you would use on very low voltage stomp boxes. I assume by your response that I can just use a standard 1/4W 5% 56K resistor?

Thanks,
Rony.

Yes, There Are different voltage ratings for resistors and amps tend to use larger voltages...you can generally tell by the size of the body/leads...especially with 'modern' resistors.

You will need a 1/2 watt resistor, or a 1 watt resistor...not sure, but a 1/4 watt resistor will probably burn up.

wow i am stupid, i just now noticed it , i went to radio shack and bought some resistors for my pedal i was building and i just now noticed they are 1/2 watt not 1/4 they work well though so i dont guess it will hurt anything.

So if you need the resistors go to a radio shack and be sure to totaly read the packages over.  :D

Don't exceed the voltage rating.
Using larger than needed resistors mainly just takes up more board space, unless you're installing them 'end up'.

Well, for effects 1/4W metal film always works. However, in some circuits like the Ge fuzz face - it's actually desireable to use carbon composite (cc) resistors. And in that case, a 1/2W cc resistor actually has a bit less hissssss then a 1/4W cc part. It's very subtle, but matters to some.
