To those who were asking here about the disappearance of these from the stock list: I do expect to have them again in the near future, but I can't give a date. Please check back with me in a few weeks.

Hi I just wanna ask a question, it's not because I want your supplyers name and address. But how can you get any of those IC's if they are not made anymore?

Sorry for my maybe stupid question, but I just need to understand it a little better

Not a stupid question...

There is (and long was, pre-internet) a large--and worldwide--market in obsolete components. The sources vary from a guy with a telephone, a rolodex and a subscription to a "bourse" like Brokerforum, to substantial companies that actually have stock. These sources are invariably wholesale: minimum orders are generally a couple of hundred dollars at least, and minimum line items are usually large. So they are not generally accessible to to the DIYer. Part of my business has been seeking out stocks of parts that are wanted in this niche market and making them available and generally affordable in small quantities. I have also sometimes acted as a broker for larger lots to pedal makers.

It's actually not any different for university textbooks.  Textbooks can have very limited runs, and certainly don't get printed every year.  It can happen that a prof takes a liking to a particular text which is not going to be printed anymore.  Lucky for them there are places that buy up unsold copies from university/college bookstores and other places, pooling them all together.  It doesn't necessarily let a school with 5,000 students registered in intro courses have new copies every year, but if you have a second or 3rd year seminar with 40 students, you can often get enough copies of an out-of-print book to supply your class from one of these special warehouses.

Same thing for chips and books.

And do the out of print books prices go to the skyies as well?  :icon_lol:
