choosing a mini-amp

i've been searching like a mad man to find a schematic for a mini amp and i've found plenty that are powered off of the the lm386. i need one that can power a 4w 4ohm speaker i have laying around. it's actualy quite a big speaker, 4in diameter (not quite "mini", but still battery powered). what would be a good circuit to use?

also, just a thought, could a circuit that is meant for a stompbox that is powered by a lm386 be used for a mini-amp?

I have built the ROG Ruby http://www.runoffgroove.com/ruby.html and am very impressed with its sound. I play it through a 4 ohm 8" Celestion speaker in a homemade cabinet and it's loud enough for a practise amp. I've read that the Ruby sounds amazing through a quad stack too.

Give it a try, it's an easy and very rewarding build. I think the JRC 386s sound better than the NC ones but ymmv.
