4,5 volts into my circuit with a 9 volts adapter..

Hi, after a few days reading this forum, I decided to register. This is my first post.

I have built a Smokey-Amp clone with this schematic:

Here's the problem: I put a battery on it, but it was an old one. I didn't measure it, but when I tried to achieve te same sound with a variable adaptor, I figured it must have been around 4,5 volts. Since I want the amp/pedal to be fed from a 9 volt adaptor, is there any way of bringing the 9V down to 4,5?

Hope I made myself clear, I'm not very good at English..

Use a 5V regulator and drop the the extra half volt (or thereabouts) using a schottky diode...

Well, that last half volt isn't really important...

I've searched at Small Bear (where I want to buy if possible), found 8 voltage regulators.

Which one do I need? The 5+? Or will that one be adding an additional 5 volts onto the 9 volts?

Anyway, thanks for your quick response!

Use a +5V regulator.  Check the data sheet for the one you buy and it'll show you how to wire them up.  One terminal will be 'in' (9V), another ground (0V) and the third will supply your circuit (5V).  Just stick the required caps at the input and outputs (see data sheet - it varies from device to device).
