I'm wondering if anyone has built this yet...I double and triple checked everything, and couldn't get it to work, BUT - the 386 IC was hot enough to light a cigarette!!

I have not built this one from Andy, took a good look at the layout and it
seems good to me, your 386 should NOT be getting hot !!
Check the "cuts" ( red dot in square )  are all there and have left no copper, its easy to miss "tiny" sections which can cause a bridge/short
I've been there !!
Power to pin 6
pins 1/8 not connected
pins 2/4 to ground
pin 3 input
pin 5 output

Double check those connections/vero traces :D
