Ok, I have finally got round to building the first version of the clone theory I designed a PCB for, so after a process of etching the board..found I forgot to flip it...etched again.......looks good...get to populating it....I usually do resistors first, then caps, then Trans, then IC's.......right

I have EVERYTHING soldered to the board except for the IC's, its taken me two days in what little spare time I have..........I come in from work tonight, start solderign in the IC's first the duals..soldered str8 to board....then 2 sockets for the CD4047 and the MN3007......ok all looks goood at this point.

I go to ease in the CD4047 and a confused look dawns on my face and curiosity hits me..........................Why are there 2 free pins at the top?

I laid out the circuit for a 16 pin IC when the CD4047 is 14 pin!!1

ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!

I have to start again....          :o  :o  :o

and to top it all off, the only cd4047 I have one of the IC "legs" is broken it broke when I took it out of the socket......

sorry for the long post need to vent to some people who will understand my frustration.

I'm sorry, I can't relate. NOT!

Arno van der Heijden

Maybe you can do a quick hack to the pcb so you don't have to start all over again....

I have been known to do that.

just make a little socket/perfboard daughterboard that re-routes the misaligned pins and solder it into the 16 pin holes.

nelson

The Board *just* fits in a 1590BB, if I were to add the daughter board it wouldnt fit.....I did spend 10 minutes working out how I could hack the existing traces to match the chip....would need a bunch of little jumpers under the board which would raise the level of the board too high and would stop me fitting offboard connections.....

I am just going to start again i have a day off tommorow and nothing to do......I will solder a new leg on the CD4047 and etch the corrected board....

Thanks for the understanding and tips guys.... :)

I am thinking of creating a sort of "photo Diary" to post to the forum of an entire build from scratch....never really seen it done before.....seen parts of builds done before...

I wish I had nothing to do on my "day off"!

what about floating the daughter board over the existing board, or up against one side of the enclosure? hate to see all that work gone.

jumper wires, anything?

WildMountain

Man, I really feel sorry for you. I'm sure a lot of guys here, including me (in my short life as a pedal builder), have been in this sort of situation.
I hope you can fix it with with Arno and Zachary's suggestions, I hope all is not lost for your project.
Good luck!

not enough depth or length when all the switches/pots etc are in box, for the daughter board at all...

So I am in for a day of Vodka Music, guitar and electronics tommorow......and a few others.....its not as if I have nothing to do....i am just doing things *I want* to do :)

it makes a change :)

The first time that I designed a PCB layout, I mirrored the layout, mistakenly thinking that I had to do that for it to iron on correctly. I proceeded to etch the board, drill it and all that stuff, only to realize that the layout shouldn't have been mirrored! After I kicked myself in the rear, I realized that I could still use the PCB. So, I had this PCB with all of the components on one side and the opamp on the other.

I will document the build from blank to finished article....if all goes to plan (never happen) and it works, ZeroTheHero has offered to host the layout on his site.

here is the old project file I did, notice the 16 pin CD4047

I would solder wires to each of the chip legs, then to where they should go.

if you laid insulation down, then perf a socket, lay that on it's back on the board where resistors are, maybe make one 'scrunch over' by replacing it, I don't see so can't say ...it wouldn't be much higher than an electrolytic.
 I 'wedged' a 4558 in a DS-1, I though it couldn't be done.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.

Arggghh when correctign my layout, I just noticed the traces around the fet are wrong!!!

I would need to have started again anyway.

Makes me wonder what else is wrong......
