I understand part of the process in making pcb's involves the use of a sharoie. Is this just your everyday shapie in the pen section of the store? Or is there a special etch resistant type that you need to order somewhere?

Nope just a plain old Sharpie. Don't know if it has to be black or not.

Just the plain-ol' black sharpie that kids use to write on siblings and the walls in most homes... I actually have not used a sharpie much since I switched to PNP a few months ago  :D But, you can actually draw the whole board with just a sharpie if you watch carefully while etching.

I use a sharpie for touching up and even creating whole boards. Its real easy to use plus its very resistant to the etchant so you preserve the shape of the copper traces on the boards. I always have 3 sizes handy. the one withthe finest point. a medium one and a bigone for covering large areas. Using a ruler Really helps too.
