Can anyone reccomend a book about electronics that explains the function of each component, how to read schematics, and other useful information?
It would be awesome if it were effects or guitar specific, but just a general book would be great too.
Thanks,
David

Here are the navy electricity and electronics training series (NEETS). They are a good introduction and are free.

There is a forum on this site called "FAQ":

It has a topic called "Books!":

Lot of good information there, though I do say so myself.

Getting Started in Electronics is still my pick for first book.

"Electronics For Dummies" is actually pretty good. It would make a really great first book on electronics. It doesn't go real in-depth on most topics, but covers alot of ground - includes chapters on breadboarding, schematic reading, PCB making, using meters and oscilloscopes, identifying components and what they do + more. There's a bit of circuit analysis and some projects to make.
It won't make you an EE but it is full of good, basic info and everything is explained about as simply as it possibly could be. It's about 400 pages.

I agree. It's a good -fill in the blanks- type of book. Especially for those of us beginners who started stringing together parts before we had any idea what they did. Lots of quick, useful info. But definitely for beginners
While it’s true it’s not very in-depth it does make for a great toilet read. One can learn a lot in 5 minutes. 5 mandatory minutes.
