Just wanted to report that I finished the Ross Compressor I started in 2002 this evening. Before leaving for college I tried to rush drilling the enclosure. It didn't work at all and I cracked it. I bought a new small bear 125 C recently and drilled it at the machine shop here at Case. For 7 measly holes the guy made me sweep the whole 1000 square foot machine shop! Anyway, I spent three more hours soldering and it worked w/o any bugs. Not so sure that the trimpot was necessary on my build, I can't get it to gate, which is what the trimpot remedies. Also, a blue 5mm LED is a touch too bright for me with only a 4k7 resistor. I almost blinded myself from jump. I left lots of room for cool decals so pictures will follow once I get the design together.

For the time you spent sweeping the machine shop, you probably could have set yourself up to do a nice job with a simple hand drill or Dremel.

Sounds like the machinist was a little crooked.

All that aside, that's pretty dang cool.  It feels great to finish a project, especially if it's your first.  It's fun to look down by your feet and see something you made that actually works.

You should be able to figure out the gating just fine with a little more tweaking.

For sure! He was like "now you can help us" as he was working on a lathe. I am not good at operating a lathe so I laughed and replied that I didn't think I could be of much help. Then he handed me a broom and told me to get to work. Normally I would have told him to kiss off, but he is in charge of access so I had to oblige or lose my privs.

I'm not sure I notice any difference as I adjust that resistor. Maybe because I used matched trannys? Actually, now that I think about it, I only get the really funky compressed tones at about 3 o'clock. I don't notice any increased sustain either... Maybe sometihng is slightly off in the calibration. Anyone have any ideas? I can obtain voltages, but then, maybe it is just a matter of it being a subtle effect.

Next? Next I'm going to build a DOD 440 EF and put an old small stone into one of Steve's Toadworks red powder coated box painted up like CCCP.
