Built the booster, dont quite understand it though.

I have a basic idea of the components and how they work however i am confused at how the current flows through this circuit. Could some one please explain what is going on, thanks.

or, try looking up beginners tutorials in the FAQ section here, or in the stickys at the top of the beginner forum. Look around for "class A amplifiers" and read on!
