First, what a nice circuit!  This was my 3rd build and the first etching my own PCB.  I really like having a distortion that sounds great throughout the entire range of the gain pot. Components used were from the GGG list of mouser parts.  Except for the 10 detent volume pot and the linear audio pot, it turned out great.  Hopefully the circuit doesn't suffer from using the "greenie" film caps compared to the nicer panasonics.  A few post-build questions:

1. I only socketed Q3 and Q4 and subbed in the 2N5457's  for the J201's.  What differences would I expect in voltages compared to those recommended by GGG?  Are my voltages far enough off that I should socket and sub?

With the J201's out,  my voltages were (G,S,D)....
Q1:0.0, 0.5, 4.2 / Q2:3.5, 4.1, 7.4 / Q3: 0.0, 0.2, 3.9/ Q4: 3.8, 4.1, 7.9/ Q5: 0, 0.9, 5.3

2.
Anyone tried Small Bear's 500K reverse audio pot for this pedal?  Was the difference noticeable?

3.
I tuned the trim pot by ear as I assume most people do.  It seemed that within the pot's range there were actually two useable sweet spots.  One was a very noticeable brighter, louder tone.  The other was a thicker, mellow tone which seemed to be not quite as loud but, not bad either.  Does the trimmer affect Q5 voltages?

Thanks,

Jason

Where the Q1D and Q2S connect of course would be same voltage...
Q5 is a gain stage, the trimpot sets Drain voltage.
Convention creates following, following creates convention.
